Dr. Muhammad Yunus is world recognized authority in economics. He founded Grameen Bank with key principle of providing microcredits to the poorest citizens of Bangladesh and South-Eastern Asia for over 30 years by now. It’s remarkable that Dr. Yunus was the first and the only one banker who gave credits without any deposits and other financial guarantees. Besides, the per cents were in dozens of times lower then native money-lenders offered.

The innovative idea of Dr. Yunus became very popular and had a success all over the world. Thanks to the bank’s credits, millions of people in Bangladesh started own business, improved life quality – from poverty. Nowadays it’s one of the largest financial corporations in the world having about 25 enterprises: Grameen Trust, Grameen Communications, Grameen Shakti/Energy, Grameen Shikkha/Education, Grameen Telecom, Grameen Knitwear Ltd. etc.

Microfinancing development is supported by such world leaders as Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Tad Turner, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and others.

In 2006 Muhammad Yunus was rewarded with Nobel Peace Prize for the input into the struggle with poverty. “It’s impossible to achieve peace till wide strata of society can’t find a solution to get out of poverty. Microcredit is one of such ways out”, is said in the official release of the Nobel committee. Today it’s the only one case in the world practice when the Nobel Prize was awarded to a banker for his financial activity.
